ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – American Home Furniture wants to help ease the strain on health care employees at work and at home.
Saturday, the company loaded up and sanitized brand-new mattresses that will be donated to health care providers across the state. Up to 200 of them will go to workers who have set up separate sleeping quarters from their loved ones to help maintain social distancing orders.
"Some folks are working in the hospitals with COVID-19 and then are coming back and want a safe area to keep their families safe," said Marketing Manager Jack Freed. Health care providers wanting mattresses for donations next weekend can email webadmin@americanhome.com.

Many of us understand the basics of childproofing our homes. We know to lock up potentially poisonous chemicals and to keep electrical outlets covered. Perhaps we've even ridded our homes of candles, and switched to exclusively using the backburner of our stoves (where our children are less likely to reach for a piping hot pot). But even the most vigilant among us may not realize that the heavy pieces of furniture filling our homes can be just as dangerous as the cleaning products hiding underneath our sinks. Every 20 minutes, someone in the U.S. is injured due to an appliance, TV or piece of furniture falling over, according to Consumer Reports. It's for this reason that anchoring your furniture to prevent tip-overs is one of the most fundamental steps you can take in rendering your home a little safer. Tip-overs happen for a number of reasons, but they're often the result of people using furniture in a way it wasn't intended to be used. "The center of gr...
Local Furniture Store Moving into its Fourth Generation Hammond's Furniture has served the Olean area since 1953, when McKinley Hammond Sr. and his wife Nina Hammond decide to start selling used furniture and appliances. Their grandson and current owner Jim Hammond said he has heard, "They started the business with one refrigerator and one washer, and it just grew from there." Hammond's Furniture did indeed grow, and it now incorporates two locations, one in Olean, NY and the original building out in Westons Mills, NY. Jim's grandparents started the company off selling mainly antiques and used furniture. That business proved so successful for the Hammond family that they expanded their repertoire into selling new furniture back in the early 1980s as well. They later expanded into the Olean building in the fall of 1993 because, according to Jim, they simply ran out of room at the original site. The Westons Mills store stays true to its roots by exc...
