We were compelled to do this when we learned that one of our rapid re-housing families had been eating their meals on the floor of their new apartment because they had no furniture. Since most of the usual outside resources have suspended operations, we began a furniture-matching effort on social media and started a food and necessities pantry. The Home Safe Home Initiative helps cover utilities costs for families, including internet services so children can do remote learning, items for a food and necessities pantry and costs for new bed mattresses, to name a few. Google is joining other companies is planning for a return to the office as COVID-19 cases decline, but its strategy may be more elaborate than most. Company chief Sundar Pichai has outlined a roadmap that will still have most employees working from home for the rest of 2020. As a resultthe company is providing a $1,000 allowance to staff to help them buy computers, office furniture and other equipment needed for remote work. While that might not cover everything, it should ease the burden for workers who don't have everything they need.
